To economically and efficiently decompose a ketone peroxide, produced when carrying out various organic synthetic reactions using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent and raising problems in safety and operations without causing side reaction.
A solution containing a ketone peroxide is brought into contact with a solid catalyst prepared by supporting platinum on a solid carrier such as active carbon or alumina, preferably for 10min to 2hr and decomposed, preferably at 40-80°C. Otherwise, the catalyst formed into a suitable shape is filled in a tubular reactional pipe and the solution preferably is passed therethrough at 1-50hr-1 expressed in terms of liquid hourly space velocity(LHSV). The amount of the platinum supported on the carrier is preferably 0.5-5wt.%.
