To provide a novel polybutylene terephthalate decomposition method capable of industrially advantageously obtaining terephthalic acid and tetrahydrofuran from polybutylene terephthalate.
In the environment-harmonization type decomposition method for the polybutylene terephthalate utilizing high temperature water, the polybutylene terephthalate is decomposed to terephthalic acid and tetrahydrofuran at higher efficiency than a prior art by adding terephthalic acid, i.e., a constitution monomer of the polybutylene terephthalate into a reaction system containing high temperature water. In a chemical recycling method for the polybutylene terephthalate product, the polybutylene terephthalate product is reproduced using the obtained monomer as a raw material. According to the present invention, the environment-harmonization type recycling technology attaining that it is efficiently decomposed to terephthalic acid and tetrahydrofuran only by high temperature water can be provided.
