Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of simply and easily decomposing ether compounds. SOLUTION: The ether compound represented by general formula (I): R<2> -O-R<1> (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each a hydrocarbon group that has a molecular weight of <=1,000,000 and may bear oxygen atoms and the like in the main chain) is decomposed by breaking the C-O bonds in ether compounds in the presence of a halide of one metal selected from the groups 5-6 in the periodic table, arbitrarily in addition of a trapping agent.
