PURPOSE: To enable the sea gull distortion of an SP panel to be corrected without accompanying a secondary deflective distortion by providing on the front side of a deflection york a pair of electromagnets for correcting the deflective distortion which are carrying the vertically deflecting current, and then setting the strength and course of the generated leakage flux properly.
CONSTITUTION: To the flange part 8a of a separator 8 in a deflection york is attached an electromagnet 14 which is comprised of a magnetic substance 12 shaped in the E-like form and an auxiliary coil 13 wound around it. In addition, the coil 13 is electrified with the vertically deflecting current so that two loops of magnetic flux directed from the central magnetic field toward the magnetic fields on both sides. The deflecting power caused by the magnetic flux changes simultaneously with the deflecting position of electron beams following the change in the vertically deflecting current so that only the sea gull distortion can be corrected effectively.
