Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device with a deformable metal capsule of an energy absorption system of a steering column for a motor vehicle.
SOLUTION: The steering column is mounted into a support fixed to a structure body of the vehicle by a fixing screw. The energy absorption capsule 10 is arranged along a shaft of the fixing screw and is tightened. Each capsule 10 has a central element 11 involving a bending part of a shaft 22 and two central parts. The central parts 17 have two elastic side direction elements 13, 14 and deformable axes 23, 24 are perpendicular to the shaft 22. The central part 17 has a spacer 21 pressed to the central part 18 after fixing while compressing side direction elements 13, 14 in order to absorb the energy by sliding motion when the impact is generated. The central part 18 has two flexible retaining elements 15, 16 fitted into the support for transportation of the column.
