Title:
DEHYDRATION OF GLYCOLS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01175950
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain high-purity H2, aldehydes and acetals without farming water as a by-product, by dehydrogenating a glycol by reaction under heating by using specific metal fine particles as a catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A glycol such as 1,4-butanediol shown by formula I [R is group shown by formula II (n is 2W10)] is dehydrogenated in the presence of usually 0.05W15wt.% based on the compound of a catalyst of fine particles of at least one metal selected from Cu, Fe, Ag, Ni, Co, etc. having ≤1,000 average particle diameter by reaction under heating usually at 50W250°C to give high-purity H2 useful in the field of various chemical industries, electronic material industries and precision metal industries, aldehydes shown by formula III (R' is group shown by formula V) such as succinaldehyde and formula IV (R" is group shown by formula VII) and a polymer thereof useful as a vehicle for coating compound and raw material for adhesive and acetals shown by formulas VI and VIII and a mixture thereof useful as a novel high-boiling liquid solvent.
