Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a deicing structure for shock absorbers that can positively prevent the intrusion of ice and the like into the cylinders of shock absorbers, and an avoid influence on the intrinsic performance of the shock absorbers, complexity in its manufacture and operation processes and increase in its cost.
CONSTITUTION: When used with a vehicle shock absorber 30 comprising a cylinder 1 with both ends closed in which is slidably inserted a piston 3 having a connected piston rod 4 projecting out through a blocking member 9 set at one end of the cylinder 1, the deicing structure deices an external surface 4b of the piston rod 4. A scraper ring 15 with a rod bore 15b of a diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the piston rod 4 is disposed axially outwardly of the blocking member 9 of the cylinder 1, and a resilient body for allowing radial movement of the scraper ring 15 is disposed between the periphery of the scraper ring 15 and the interior surface of a gable plate 2 fixed to the end of the cylinder 1.
