Title:
DELAY LINE COMPOSED OF DIELECTRIC WAVEGUIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6444605
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To facilitate fitting operation and apply the delay line to a wide frequency band by composing a waveguide of a core of polytetrafluoroetylene(PTFE), and a single or plural layers of PTFE covering it. CONSTITUTION: When a terminal 20 provided with a flange 21 is connected to a dielectric waveguide 10 in a reception part 12, electromagnetic energy enters the terminal 20. A taper 13 of the waveguide 10 performs impedance conversion so that the energy is sent efficiently in the core 12 of the waveguide 10. Once the propagation of the energy is restrained by the core 12, the propagation is carried out through the core 12 surrounded by a tape type clad 14. The core 12 is formed of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) and the clad 14 is also formed as well. The waveguide 10 is provided with an absorption layer 18 and an electromagnetic shield layer 16 so as to prevent external interference. A mandrel 26 is surrounded with the waveguide 10 and then a cable of proper length is provided so as to obtain a specific delay time. Here, T=KL/c, where T is the delay time of a delay line of proper length, (c) is the light velocity, and K is the delay constant of the waveguide. Then the constant K is approximately 1.45 for PTFE.
