Abstract:
PURPOSE: To surely detect the length in delivery direction of an article and the position of the article on a conveyor by enabling the detection even for the thin article such as a mail envelope.
CONSTITUTION: This has an induction conveyor 12 where a plurality of conveyors including a timing conveyor 14 are arranged in order in the direction of delivery. Area sensors 64 whose detection areas are in the direction of conveyor width are arranged in opposition above and below through the section between the timing conveyor 14 and the upstream conveyor 13. This is equipped with an article's length detection means which detects the length of the article, based on the detected passage time of the article detected with the area sensor 64. This is equipped with an article's position detection means which detects the position of the article, based on the article carriage distance of the timing conveyor 14 from the point of time when the area sensor 64 has detected the article. This is equipped with a control means which controls the start timing of the article from the timing conveyor 14, based on the length and the position of the article on the timing conveyor 14 and the delivery timing of the article from the induction conveyor 12.
