To effectively perform demagnetization of a rare earth magnet, an NdFeB-based bond magnet or the like having high coercive force by comparatively simple constitution.
A demagnetization apparatus comprises: first and second switches 11a, 11b for charging a charging capacitor 6 in a positive direction by voltage from a boost transformer 3; third and fourth switches 11c, 11d for charging the charging capacitor 6 in a negative direction; a fifth switch 13 for allowing a positive current from the charging capacitor 6 to flow into a demagnetization coil 8; a sixth switch 14 for allowing a negative current from the charging capacitor 6 to flow into the demagnetization coil 8; a voltage detection means 12 for detecting voltage between both the ends of the charging capacitor 6; and a control means 10 for controlling the first to sixth switches 11a to 14 according to the detection voltage of the voltage detection means 12.
