To provide a method for rapidly and efficiency eliminating an unpleasant odor by directly acting the method on a coating material to be applied relating to the deodorization method of the coating material which performs the deodorization of the coating material applied on a wall surface and the like.

Chlorine dioxide of 60 to 200 ppm in concentration is incorporated into the water-base coating material to be coated. The unpleasant odor intrinsic to the coating material can be eliminated from the coating material on the coated surface by applying the water-base coating material to the wall surface and the like. Also, an aqueous solution of the chlorine dioxide of 600 to 3,000 ppm of the slightly higher concentration is applied from above onto the water-base coating material or non-water-base coating material applied on the wall surface and the like by spraying and the like. The unpleasant odor intrinsic to the coating material can be thereby similarly eliminated from the applied coating material.
