PURPOSE: To obtain a new DNA useful for producing a transgenic plant having an elevated resistance towards pernicious organisms and plant diseases.
CONSTITUTION: This recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid consists of a combination of (A) a double-stranded cDNA fragment derived from an RNA of a plum box virus(PPV) and (B) a double-stranded cDNA fragment derived from an S RNA of a tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) or contains these constituents. In addition to further DNA fragments which may optionally be present, a promoter active in plant cells and regulating the transcription of the recombinant DNA fragment can be contained in the combination. The fragment A has, e.g. a sequence represented by formula I and the fragment B has, e.g. a sequence represented by formula II. The deoxyribonucleic acid is obtained by mutually directly joining the two fragments so as to locate the fragment B after the fragment A (in the direction of 3') or joining the two fragments A and B with an additional DNA fragment.
