Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer composed of a copolymerization product of predetermined amounts of specific several monomers and a specific crosslinking agent and excellent in oxygen permeability, antimicrobial activity and protein deposit resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymerization product is composed of 65-97.9 wt.% (hereinafter '%') hydrophilic monomer selected from a hydroxy substituted 1-4C alkyl(meth)acrylate, (meth)acrylamide, an N-1-2C alkyl(meth)acrylamide, allyl alcohol, 2- or 4-vinylpyridine, etc., and a mixture thereof; 20-1% monomer selected from compounds of formulae I-III (wherein G is H or CH3; n is 2-20; T is a 2-4C alkylene; R is G; and Q is a direct bond or -O-); 20-1% quaternary ammonium monomer (mixture) selected from groups of formulae IV-VII (wherein L is T; E1-3 are each a 1-18C alkyl or the like; and X- is a halide); and 5-0.1% crosslinking agent selected from ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, neopentyl glycol dimethacrylate, etc.
