PURPOSE: To provide a descaling device which can cope with the forward and backward movement of a material to be rolled.
CONSTITUTION: The descaling device 10 is arranged to the side of a rolling mill 3 that is capable of rolling in a forward and backward direction. The device is for removing the surface scale of a material to be rolled 1 and is provided with a roller 12 for horizontally supporting the material to be rolled, a nozzle 14 for injecting a high pressure water on the surface of the material to be rolled with an inclination to the upstream side, a draining board 16 which is installed on the upstream side of the nozzle and comes into contact with the surface of the material to be rolled with an inclination to the downstream side. The draining board 16 is provided movably between a position in contact with the surface of the material to be rolled and a releasing position with a space apart from the surface of the material to be rolled, and is controlled so that the board is in the contact position at the time of forward movement of the rolling mill and in the releasing position at the time of backward movement.
