Title:
LIQUID LEVEL MONITOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06102080
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To eliminate such an undesirable influence of stray light reflected from the internal surface of a container on a liquid level indicator that causes erroneous liquid level reading.

CONSTITUTION: A liquid level monitor which is used for detecting the surface level of a liquid in a tank or container, representatively, an the radiator 11 of an automobile is provided with a light emitting diode 74 and a phototransistor 76 in a cover and the cover has a light transmissive transparent lens 78. The lens 78 is provided with a prism forming section which scatters or changes stray light reflected from the internal core wall 18 of the container. The prism forming section prevents the scattered or dispersed light from conducting the phototransistor 76, leading to an erroneous reading, namely, misreading of the monitor. The sensitivity of the monitor is improved by impressing a high- intensity pulse upon the diode 74 for a short time.
