The invention relates to a method of and apparatus for advising a user about receivable programs. Programs are rated in accordance with a user profile and information about program categories. An agent presents opinions and advises about the receivable programs based on these ratings. The agent is capable of expressing human-like emotions. These emotions are based on the program ratings on the one hand, and information about subject items of the programs on the other hand.
