PURPOSE: To obtain a desiccant which does not impair the flavor of food or the like and has humidity conditioning action capable of holding it at optimum humidity for the storage thereof by covering the surface of the solid desiccant with water soluble high polymer.
CONSTITUTION: After adding both a solid desiccant such as zeolite and an extending agent such as CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 and pearlite into an aq. soln. of a water soluble high polymer such as methylcellulose, mixing and stirring the mixture, a desiccant is produced by molding it into various particle shapes, sheetlike shape or angular shape and drying it. By such method, the desiccant having various equibrium humidity is obtained by the combination of compositions of the solid desiccant and the water soluble high polymer.
