Abstract:

To prevent a reduction in reliability caused by high temperature preservation and to prevent phenomenon (self-erase) in which one part of a record mark is erased by heat diffused in the direction of an inner part of a plane of a recording layer when irradiation is performed with a laser beam for recording, in a phase change type optical recording medium.

This design method is a method for designing an optical recording medium having a recording layer of a phase change type and adapted to a drive device performing over-write with linear velocity Vo. The optical recording medium is designed so that over-write is performed varying linear velocity variously, when linear velocity Vmax at which the maximum C/N is obtained out of the above, the relation of the Vmax and the adapted linear velocity Vo satisfies the following relation: 1<Vmax/Vo<1.5.
