Abstract:

PURPOSE: To desilicate in molten pig trough with maximum utilization of weak agitating power by adding iron oxide whose amt. is regulated by the initial concn. of Si, the falling height of moten pig, and the amt. of flux to be added to the moten pig trough havng low head as a desilicating agent.

CONSTITUTION: The iron oxide whose amt. satisfies the following equation is added to a molten pig trough having ≤ about 1m head of molten pig flow in a pig bed of a blast furnace as a desilicating agent: x=0.9.[86×(% Si)O+7.0×H+ 1.1×F+8.6]W1.1.[86×(% Si)o+7.0×H+1.1×F+8.6]) where x is the amt. of iron oxide to be added (kg/T molten pig iron), (% Si) is initial Si concn. (%), H is falling height of molten pig iron (m), F is the amt. of flux to be added (kg/T molten pig ion). The desilication is carried out with a high level of efficiency even under weak agitating conditions. In an actual operation, the ±10% allowance to said (x) can be tolerated in consideration of the variation in efficiency due to the temp. of the molten pig and the speed of tapping.
