When a telephone call is received from an external telephone 201 by an exchange 202 connected to a destination display device 101, its connection destination extension number is received and sent to the destination display device 101, and the destination or the like is retrieved on the basis of it. When there is nobody corresponding to the extension number, that is reported to the caller. When the corresponding person is present, the extension number is called and the completion of the call is monitored. When the corresponding person is absent, the destination display device 101 replies the previously stored destination and return schedule time of the corresponding person as a message to the caller and returns to a standby state at its end. Thus, the destination display device 101 when receiving an external telephone call reads information on the name, destination, and return schedule time coded on the magnetic stripe of each plate by a magnetic sensor 220 and automatically replies them when unattended.
