PURPOSE: To surely detect leakage of a waste liquid even if the waste liquid flows out only to a part of a passage and an oil film is not formed on the surface of the waste liquid when the leakage of the waste liquid occurs.
CONSTITUTION: A waste liquid leakage detection apparatus that detects leakage of a liquid a drainage 2 comprises an imaging device 4 for imaging a surface of the liquid in the drainage 2 and a display device 5 for displaying the image both of which are connected to an image signal processing device 8. The image signal processing device 8 comprises an area setting means 9 that sets an arbitrary region in a screen formed by the imaging device 4 as a sensing area S, a luminance change detection means 10 that monitors the change of the luminance of an image signal outputted from each of the pixels inn the sensing area S and an alarming means 11 that outputs a signal indicative of the leakage of the liquid when a quantity of change of the luminance detected by each pixel is greater than a predetermined level.
