PURPOSE: To correctly detect the presence of the chip part suction despite of the form of a chip part and to decide the posture of the sucked chip part, by providing a control part which detects the presence of the chip part at the suction end of a suction nozzle with the image picture that an image pickup body uptakes being processed and which measures the type thereof.

CONSTITUTION: An installation head 12 is supported freely movably in X - Y direction and a suction nozzle 14 is provided freely movably vertically on this installation head 12. A chip part 1 is then subjected to vacuum suction to the suction end thereof and a lighting system(floodlight) 20 and an image pickup body(CCD camera) 22 integrally provided together with the suction nozzle 14 on the installation head 12. The suction end of the suction nozzle 14 is lighten with this lighting system 20, the suction end of the suction nozzle 14 lighted by the image pickup body 22 is taken up as an image picture, the presence of the chip part 1 at the suction end of the suction nozzle 14 is detected with the image this pickup body 22 took up being processed at a control part 27 and the type thereof is measured.
