Abstract:

To provide a method for detecting microorganisms and a kit therefor, capable of rapidly and simply detecting the target microorganism at a high sensitivity.

This method for detecting microorganisms comprises bringing a microorganism in a specimen into contact with a substance labeled with a crystalline polymer to form a microorganism-crystalline polymer-labeled substance complex, inserting the complex between two sheets of polarizing plates, transmitting light and detecting the complex as a radiant. The labeled substance is an antibody obtained by covalently bonding a crystalline polymer and having affinity for microorganisms or microorganism components. The crystalline polymer is selected from cellulose, starch, polyethylene, nylon, polyester, polypropylene and a copolymer containing the above polymers as components and their derivatives.
