Abstract:

PURPOSE:To obtain a detector for distance between automobiles whose image processing time is short and reliability is high. CONSTITUTION:An image of an object 5 is formed on image sensors 3,4 via lenses 1, 2. An image signal from the image sensors 3,4 is stored in memories 8, 9. A CPU 10 sets a window in the memory 8 and compares an image signal in the window with the image signal in the memory 9 to detect a distance. The CPU 10 stores the image signal in the window into a window memory 11 and compares with the image signal and the image signal in an image comparison region in the memory 8 to update the window. This image comparison region is a region where a previous window position has been horizontally and/or vertically extended.
