PURPOSE: To enable a device to be positioned correctly facing a head lamp to be measured, by installing a device which projects a fine beam light from the surface of a collecting lens positioned facing the head lamp to be measured.
CONSTITUTION: A beam projecting device 8 is secured to a front surface side of a cover panel 7, and projects forward finely-throttled beam light. The beam light 9 is caused to pass through approximately the center of a collecting lens 4. A surface, on which a light detecting element train moves, forms a virtual secreen, and a distributing light pattern of a head lamp is miniaturized for projection thereon to detect the main light axis of the head lamp. In which case, the main light axis detector can be positioned facing and opposite to the head lamp through movement of the front of the total device so as to visually coincide beam light with the lamp axis of the head lamp to be measured, and the device has an advantage that it is more inexpensive as compared with conventional types.
