PURPOSE: To obtain a chemical substance effective for removing oxidative stains from cloth by the use of a peroxy bleaching agent at 60°C or lower which is encountered in domestic cleaning or washing operations.
CONSTITUTION: A non-linear peroxycarboxylic acid precursor is represented by formula I {wherein a group of formula II is a non-linear structural configuration moiety and R'' and R''' are each H or a 1-4C alkyl; a group of formula III is an acyl moiety of the carboxylic acid having a log POCT of 1.9-4.1 (wherein POCT is the partition coefficient between n-octanol and water at 21°C); L is a group of formula IV [wherein Z is H, R2 or a halide; R1 is a linear cycloaliphatic or branched aliphatic group which can contain a heteroatom such as O, N and a halogen; R2 is a 1-4C alkyl; X is 0-4; Y is SO3M, SOS3M, CO2M, N+(R2)3Q- or N(R2)3→O; M is H, an alkali(ne earth)metal or a (substituted) ammonium; and N is a halide or methosulfate]} and includes, e.g. sodium 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyloxybenzenesulfonate.
