Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent compsn. which is phosphorus- and nitrogen-free and has an improved detergency by incorporating a surfactant and a specific sequestering compd. into the same.
SOLUTION: A diester obtd. by reacting a conjugated diene compd. with a dialkyl ketomalonate is hydrolyzed, and the resultant dicarboxylate is oxidized to give a sequestering compd. of the formula [wherein M is H or a cation (giving a water-soluble salt); and R1 and R2 are each H, OH, CH2OH, CH2CH2 OH, or COOM]. 0.5-98 wt.% surfactant, 2-99.5 wt.% above-obtd. sequestering compd., and 0-75 wt.% inorg. detergent builder are compounded.
