PURPOSE: To obtain a detergent composition lastingly reduced in foaming during rinsing after washing without determent to its detergency.

CONSTITUTION: This detergent composition comprises 2-90wt.% at least one surfactant (A), 1-98wt.% at least one builder (B), and 0.001-20wt.% foam inhibitor (C) comprising a base oil (a) selected from the group consisting of an organosilicon polymer represented by formula I and a diorganopolysiloxane represented by formula II (wherein R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group except alkenyl; R2 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, hydrogen or hydroxyl; R3 is an alkylene; R4 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group; R5 is a 2-18 C monovalent hydrocarbon group; (m) is an integer of 2 or above; (n) is an integer of 0 or greater; and m≥n) and a fine silica powder (b) having a specific surface area of at least 50m2/g and used in an amount of 1-50 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. component (a).
