To obtain a detergent composition which is lowly irritating to the skin, has excellent foamability, can give creamy foams, provides comfortable touch when used in washing and has conditioning effect such as smoothness after washing by using a combination of an N-alkylamidoalkanolsulfuric ester salt with a cationic polymer.

This composition is prepared by mixing desirably 3-70wt.%, based on the total composition, N-alkylamidoalkanolsulfuric acid ester salt of the formula (wherein R1 is a 6-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is a 1-22C alkyl, an alkenyl or hydrogen; R3 is a 1-5C alkylene; R4O is a 2 or 3C oxyalkylene; n is 0-20; and M is hydrogen, an alkali metal, ammonium, a basic amino acid or the like) with desirably 0.01-5wt.%, based on the total composition, cationic polymer such as a polyglycol/polyamine condensate, a vinylimidazolium trichloride/vinylpyrrolidone copolymer or hydroxyethylcellulose/ dimethylallylammonium chloride copolymer.
