To obtain a detergent composition that is excellent in foaming, foam fineness, creamy texture, foam elasticity (viscosity) and foam stability by formulating a specific surfactant and a higher fatty acid at a specific weight ratio.

(A) A double long chains and dipolar group-bearing anionic surfactant, preferably a compound represented by the formula (R is an 8-24C alkyl, an alkenyl; A and X are each a 1-6C alkylene; Y is carboxyl, sulfonic acid or the like), typically disodium N,N'-bis[(2-lauramideethyl)ethylenediamine- N,N'-diacetate, and (B) a higher fatty acid salt are formulated at a weight ratio of 9/1-1/9. In a preferred embodiment, the component A and (C) a single long-chain monopolar group-bearing anionic surfactant (except the component B) are formulated at a weight ratio of 9/1-1/9.
