To provide a detergent container for a washing machine, by which clothes are hardly brought into contact with powder detergent directly, and the detergent is easily dissolved in washing water thereby preventing incomplete rinsing even when the powder detergent is used or a large amount of clothes are washed at a time, etc.

The detergent container 10 for the washing machine, which is thrown into the washing machine in a state where the detergent is stored in an internal space, includes: a tray body 20 which has a flat columnar shape and is opened upward, and to which the detergent is thrown in; a stirring ball 6 arranged inside the tray body 20; and a lid body 70 for closing the upward opening 20U of the tray body 20. The lid body 70 has buoyancy in water. At least a peripheral wall 40 of the tray body 20 is constituted of a water-permeable material.
