PURPOSE: To determine an optimal reading condition and/or an image processing condition every photographing pattern, even if a photographing pattern of a stomach image is different.

CONSTITUTION: In the case of a stomach image, there is such a relation as a split pattern is a full image or a double contrast image, a double contrast image, and an oppressed image corresponding to the case of no-split, 2-splits, and 4-splits, respectively. Based on this relation, from an image signal carrying radiation image information of the stomach image, the king of the split pattern of the stomach image is discriminated, and the kind of a photographing pattern is recognized. Subsequently, a reading condition and/or an image processing condition corresponding to the kind of this photo-graphing pattern are set, and by this reading condition, regular read of the image is executed, and an image processing is performed to the image signal.
