To output a high-definition image by concentratedly rearranging a toner image at a position where an electrode extremely approaches an image carrier.
By arranging the (rearrangement) electrode 5 on the more downstream side of the image carrier 1 in the rotating direction than a developing part and impressing an AC electric field on it, the toner image is rearranged on the carrier 1. When a distance from the nearest position on the carrier 1 toward a circumferential direction is defined as (x) an the function of a distance to the electrode 5 from the respective (x) points is defined as S(x), the inclination of the function S(x) is ≥0.5 at the position of (x)/20 pixels of the resolution of the image which is outputted. When the radius of the curvature of the electrode 5 used for rearranging the toner image is reduced at the part thereof being near to the carrier 1 and the inclination of the function S(x) is ≥0.5 at the position of (x)/20 pixels of the resolution of the image which is outputted, the high-resolution output image is obtained. The toner image is rearranged at the position where the carrier 1 sufficiently approaches the electrode 5 and it is not rearranged at a position where the function of S(x) is gradually separated and a latent image electric field is broad.
