PURPOSE: To stabilize the traveling state of a steel strip in the center part of a furnace when the steel strip travels vertically in a continuous heat treating furnace or the like by providing both edge parts and the center part of the steel strip with gas jetting nozzles, detecting the displacement of the steel strip with sensors and adjusting the pressure of the jetting gas from the nozzles.
CONSTITUTION: The steel strip 1 travels vertically in the continuous heat treating furnace, a pair of variable jetting nozzles A1, A2 and B1, B2 are arranged on both edge sides of the strip respectively and also a pair of gas nozzles C1, C2 are arranged in the center part of the steel strip 1. By detecting the amount of displacement of the steel strip 1 in traveling in the furnace with the displacement sensors 2, 3, sending the detected values to controllers 21, 22 and 31, 32, adjusting gas pressure that is fed to the variable jetting nozzles A1, A2 and B1, B2 by the opening degrees of the regulating valves 21a, 22a, 31a, 32a and also forming static pressure parts in the center part of the steel strip 1 by jetting definite pressure gas from the jetting nozzles C1, C2 in the center part, the steel strip 1 travels always in the center patt of the heat treating furnace and the generation of twist and fluttering of the steel strip is prevented.
