PURPOSE: To provide a device for attaching/detaching a chock and method thereof which facilitate the fixing and releasing of a chock by an adjust ring.
CONSTITUTION: Turning rolls for supporting small diameter rolls and large diameter rolls are arranged on different levels on a receiving base that advances/retreats by a hydraulic cylinder, and are rotatably driven by a motor. In a device for fixing a chock 7 by press-contacting on a clamp ring 6 by rotating it in the direction of being screwed out of a ring carrier that is screwed onto a ring carrier attached to a roll neck 8 with its rotation stopped, the attaching/ detaching of the chock is carried out by mounting a tightening fitting on a recessed part on the outer circumference of an adjust ring 1, interposing the upper side of the tightening fitting between the bolts of the chock, and rotatably driving the turning roll with the rotation of the adjust ring 1 stopped. As a result, the roll is turned, the adjust ring 1 is screwed in the ring carrier 9 or screwed out, and the press-contacting onto the clamp ring and the releasing are performed.
