PURPOSE: To smoothly control the pressurizing speed in the low speed pressurizing range of a movable die regardless of the oil leak quantity and the load of the hydraulic cylinder side.

CONSTITUTION: In the hydraulic press provided with a fixed die 12, a movable die 11, a hydraulic cylinder 4 which moves and pressurizes the movable die, and a hydraulic circuit via which an operating oil for pressurizing is supplied to the hydraulic cylinder 4 for controlling, the circuit is composed of a variable volume pump 20 which is connected to the hydraulic cylinder 4 with an oil tube 21 through a solenoid direction switching valve 19, a solenoid flow proportional control valve 25 fitted on an oil tube 24 by-passing the solenoid direction switching valve 19, a sensor 16 for detecting the position or the speed of the movable die 11, a speed setting means 32 which sets the pressurizing speed of the movable die 11, and a comparator 31 which adjusts the opening degree of the controlling valve 25 by comparing the set speed value with the output value of the detecting sensor 16 for calculation.
