To provide a device for controlling a vehicle drive device which can strike a balance between fuel economy performance and drivability in a vehicle including an engine with a compression ratio-changing mechanism for changing a compression ratio and an automatic transmission constituting part of a power transmission path from the engine to a drive wheel.
The control device causes a case actuator 78 in response to a vehicle accelerating operation to decrease a compression ratio of the engine 12 relative to that before the vehicle accelerating operation, and also when a transmission gear ratio of a continuously variable transmission 18 is largely shifted relative to that before the vehicle accelerating operation, the greater acceleration request is in the vehicle accelerating operation, the more the control device delays a compression ratio decrease operation starting timing where the case actuator 78 starts an operation of decreasing a compression ratio of the engine 12 to increase engine power that is achieved at the compression ratio decrease operation starting timing. Thus, the greater the acceleration request is, the more a delay in engine power rise due to the operation time of the case actuator 78 is suppressed.
