Title:
DEVICE FOR COPING WITH ABNORMALITY OF LOCK-UP TORQUE CONVERTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01188758
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of working fluid and the fusing failure of parts which are readily affected by heat by providing a lock-up means which is responsive to signals from a coupling condition detecting means and a stator rotation detecting means and which carries out direct connection when a stator fails to rotate in spite of a coupling condition. CONSTITUTION:During the detection of a coupling condition, the input/output elements of a lock-up torque converter are rotated being accompanied by a stator in the same direction. In this case, if a one-way clutch for supporting the stator is locked because of abnormality, the stator fails to rotate accompanying the input/output elements even in a coupling condition, causing the torque ratio and efficiency of the torque converter to be lowered in the coupling condition. In this case, however, since a lock-up means directly connects the input/ output elements of the torque converter, the lowering of the torque ratio and efficiency can be prevented. Hence, the stepping-in of an accelerator pedal may be as usual, preventing the unusual rise in working fluid temperature and accompanying deterioration of the working fluid as well as the fusing failure of parts which are readily affected by heat.
