To greatly reduce the time required for designing a dental prosthesis by designing the shape of a dental prosthesis for prosthetically repairing a base tooth, with the use of standard dental shape data read from a standard dental shape data memory means, and three-dimensional shape data of a detail model which is measured by a three-dimensional shape measuring means.
A multi-spindle moving means 2 for moving a three-dimensional shape measuring means 1 for three-dimensionally measuring clenching surfaces between a shaped base tooth and a tooth adjacent to the former, and a tooth mated with the base tooth, is controlled by a multi-spindle positioning and controlling means 3. Further, arbitrary data is read from a standard dental shape data memory means 5 in which standard dental shape three dimensional coordinates data is stored under instructions from a selecting and instructing means 6, and a dental prosthesis shape adapted to be fitted on the base tooth, is designed from thus read detail model shape data and detail model shape data obtained from the three-dimensional shape measuring means 1 by an automatically prosthesis designing means 4. Further, the structural strength is examined and the shape is corrected.
