PURPOSE: To quickly and accurately detect the cavitation of an electromagnetic pump used for fast bleeder reactors, etc.
CONSTITUTION: By providing an electrode 10 so that the electrode 10 can be brought into contact with a working fluid 5 through the duct 8 of an electromagnetic pump and connecting a high-frequency signal source 11 to the electrode 10 so that most of a high-frequency current can be made to flow near the interface between the fluid 5 and duct 8, the generation and collapse of a cavitation are detected from changes in electrical admittance. Since the electromagnetic pump can be operated within the extent within which no cavitation is generated by accurately and quickly detecting a generated and collapsing cavitation, the damage to the duct by cavitations can be prevented and the service life of the material used for the duct can be prolonged.
