To provide a metallic strip coil tip detecting device capable of detecting a tip with the prescribed set threshold in the wide range of the outer diameter and sheet thickness of a coil.

A metallic strip coil tip detecting device consists of two support rolls (4), a bracket (6A) to connect two support rolls, a non-contact eddy type displacement sensor (5) which is fitted to the bracket and detects the displacement by a step at the tip of a metallic strip, and a driving means (3) to arrange the bracket on the outer circumference of a metallic strip coil (1), and has the function to change the clearance between two support rolls by the bracket so that the distance between the non-contact eddy type displacement sensor and the metallic strip coil is kept constant according to the outer diameter of the coil.
