PURPOSE: To enable to detect a defect in a cloth having a design on its surface and to change a detection sensitivity according to the position of the defect, by making an image processor portion record a design pattern beforehand, and taking out a defect signal by making a comparison between the stored design pattern and the design pattern in the piece of cloth with similar design pattern when a piece of cloth having a similar design is examined.
CONSTITUTION: When a piece of washed sheet 10 is dried with a roll ironer 3 and ironed, the sheet is sent to a sheet folder 5 by a carrying conveyor 51 and folded, and discharged from a good article discharging conveyor 53. A testing portion A is provided on the upper side of the carrying conveyor 51, an elongated image of the entire width of the sheet 10 is projected on a CCD sensor of a line image sensor 43 to scan each image element at a high speed, the light and dark is converted into electric signals and sent to controlling means 40 for storing in an image processor portion. Upon receipt of a light and dark signal of the piece of cloth image, the image processor portion compares the signal with a regular pattern program stored in advance, cancels the pattern design signal and processes to select only a defect signal of the sheet.
