The device 20 for detecting a position of a container (a transferred article) 4 transferred by a conveyor 10 in a heating furnace 2 is provided with a rotatably supported shaft 21 piercing a casing 3 of the heating furnace 2, a rotation follower 22 engaged with a dog 19 of the container 4 passing through the heating furnace 2 to rotatively drive the shaft 21, and a shaft rotational position detecting mechanism 40 converting rotation of the shaft 21 into actuation of the limit switch 43 in an outer side of the heating furnace 2.
