To provide a device for detecting a ripple in a DC motor which implements higher accuracy of position detection than an existing technique by measuring an overrun after the DC motor is powered down.
A device 2 for detecting a ripple in a DC motor of the present invention includes: a current detection section 43 (shunt resistance) for detecting an armature current flowing through an armature winding via brushes 31, 32 and a commutator; a ripple detection section 44 for detecting a current ripple included in the armature current; and a closed circuit forming section (a selection relay 71, a short circuit line 73) for forming a closed circuit electrically connecting the armature winding and the current detection section 43 in series when a DC power supply 5 (a battery) is shut off. After the DC power supply 5 is shut off, the current detection section 43 detects a closed circuit current Is flowing through the closed circuit, and the ripple detection section 44 detects a current ripple included in the closed circuit current Is.
