Abstract:

To provide a device for determining smolder that improves the accuracy of the smolder determination of an ignition plug.

When the period when a current detection signal during the primary current energization of an ignition coil is a predetermined value or larger is a predetermined period or longer, the device determines whether a current engine operating region is an ignition generating region with an engine speed and a load factor as parameters. When the engine operating region is the ignition generating region, the device determines that "smolder occurs" when the current detection signal (drift voltage value) after the annihilation of an ion current is the predetermined value or larger, and determines that "no smolder occurs" when it is smaller than the predetermined value.
