To provide a device for discriminating a cylinder applicable to an internal combustion engine that performs a variable valve timing control.
This device includes a means 81 for corresponding to a crank shaft rotation angle and generating crank angle positioning signals including a specific signal for obtaining a standard crank angle position, means 82A and 82B each for generating a cylinder discriminating signal corresponding to each cylinder in accordance with the rotation of at least either of an intake cam and an exhaust cam that rotate at a half of the ratio of a crank shaft rotation and that are advanced or lagged by VVT control, a means 201 for detecting a plurality of standard crank angle positions by crank angle positioning signals, a means 203 for identifying correspondences between each standard crank angle position and each of cylinders from combinations of standard crank angle positions and cylinder identification signals, a means 205 for setting a cylinder identification segment with a predetermined angle length considering an advance and a delay based on the standard crank angle position, and a means 207 for identifying a cylinder based on the standard crank angle position and a cylinder identification signal in which a correspondence of the cylinder group within a cylinder identification segment.
