PURPOSE: To stably supply a sterilizing water from the running water contg. a minute amt. of chloride ion for a long period of time by circulating city water, etc., between a couple of electrodes impressed with a voltage and electrolyzing the water.
CONSTITUTION: The running water contg. chloride ion supplied from a water source is sent into an electrolytic cell 3 from an inlet 1 and passed between electrodes 4. While the water is passed between the electrodes 4, the chloride ion, hydroxide ion and hydrogen ion are electrolyzed to form free chlorine, hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion. Accordingly, a highly sterilizable liq. contg. the substances is formed and discharged from an outlet 2. The distance between the electrodes 4 is set at >0.2mm, and at least the anode is used as a chlorine generating electrode. The chlorine generating electrode may be formed from a chlorine generating catalyst or formed by exposing and fixing a chlorine generating catalyst bed on the surface of a conductive material.
