The device for examining visual performance comprises a presenting part 1, a light source 2 and a control part 4. The presenting part 1 is a typical display device to present a contrast chart C to a subject. The light source 2 is disposed in a direction different from the contrast chart C as seen from the subject S to emit light in the direction of the subject S. The control part 4 determines the space frequency (the width of stripes) of the contrast chart C presented by the presenting part, and controls the contrast ratio of the contrast chart C.
