PURPOSE: To provide an ignition /firing device for a gas lamp, which solves problems arising from a fact that the combustion gas blow-off nozzle thereof is made of a metal, and which is capable of employing a flame rod prominent in responding and detecting performance as a safety device and provided with a system wherein respective tip ends of a spark rod and the flame rod do not penetrate a mantle.

CONSTITUTION: An ignition device for initiating a gas lamp is provided with one or more than two pieces of downward mantles 4 for burning combustion gas in the inside cavity thereof, a combustion gas supplying means 8, supplying combustion gas or fuel gas and air into the inside cavity of the mantles 4, an ignition/firing means 5 for igniting the combustion gas and a safety device for preventing the discharging of the combustion gas. An auxiliary combustion burner 20, equipped with the means 5 and the safety device 6, is provided near the mantles 4 as the igniting/firing means for the combustion gas.
