To provide a roll gap measuring device capable of measuring a roll gap with high accuracy without receiving the influence of disturbance such as cooling water, and further applicable even to a crown control mill such as a cross roll rolling mill.
The roll gap measuring device includes: rope members 5, one-end sides of which are fixed respectively to either of roll chocks 3a or roll chocks 3b of upper and lower work rolls, which chocks are opposite to each other; winding reel mechanisms 6, which are set at the other roll chocks 3b or roll chocks 3a of the upper and lower work rolls and hold the other-end sides of the rope members 5 while making it possible to wind up the other-end sides; and rotary encoders 7 for detecting the rotating positions of the reels of the winding reel mechanisms 6. Tension force is applied to the rope members 5 by the winding reel mechanisms 6. Since the reel rotating positions correspond to the winding-up lengths of the rope members 5 in accordance with the sizes of roll gaps, the amounts of roll gaps are obtained from the encoder outputs of the reel rotating positions.
